I have found that Nutanix AHV and AOS run just fine on most enterprise
grade hardware but more recently due to the crazy hardware pricing we had to
make a switch to Dell Power Edge servers to get a new high performance compute
cluster up and ready for a very specific business requirement.
I came across a few issues when getting the environment all
configured up and stable ready to hand across to the business.
Below are my findings of what needs specifically configured for these servers.
PcieMultiSegment – BIOS setting.
Log into the iDRAC
Navigate to Configuration > BIOS Settings
Expand the Processor Settings section
Find the PCI Multi-Segment Support option and set it
to One Segment
Apply and Reboot.
Depending on the spec of your Dell servers you will need to
set some additional BIOS settings as listed in Nutanix
KB-16691.
Get the relevant settings set to save yourself a whole load
of time troubleshootings issues with performance and devices such as GPU’s not
functioning as expected.
